What's happening today?
Following our live lesson.
We will discuss this together when we meet at 2.00pm. Be ready to discuss your ideas and bring a piece of paper and a felt tip or dark pen (so I can see your answers on camera).
Yesterday we looked at alphabetical order and you found some things that were organised in alphabetical order like registers, dictionaries, indexes, telephone books, recipe books, address books and all sorts of interesting things.
Today we are going to look at a glossary and you are going to use your reading skills to help you look closer. This glossary is from a book about plants. A glossary is useful if you are reading a non fiction book and you want to know the meaning of a key word.
Try to answer in full sentences to practise your sentence writing.
What is a seedling?
What is the definition of a flower?
What part of the plant is in the soil?
What is the part of the plant that grows on the stem?
According to the glossary, what two things do plants need to grow?
What do you think the title of a book with this glossary is?
I want to add the word 'bud' to the glossary. Can you write a definition for 'bud'?
The word petal is going to be added to the glossary. Which word would it come after in my glossary?
The word wilt is also going to be added to the glossary. Which word would it come after in my glossary?
Why are the words in alphabetical order?
Take a look at some non fiction books, where is the glossary usually found?

Watch and listen to the story ‘Peace at Last’ by Jill Murphy. Mr Bear wants peace but what does the 'peace' mean to you? What does peace mean to Christians?
Sometimes the word ‘peace’ describes how we feel, it is a pleasant feeling when we feel calm, or when we are happy or not worried about something. Sometimes it means no fighting or an end of fighting.
In the story of 'Peace at Last' Mr Bear wanted some peace and quiet to fall asleep to.
Today I would like you to make a graffiti heart of peace. It is a heart with words, pictures or doddles that you think show what peace means. They are some examples below. Remember Christians believe that God will always give them peace if they follow him even if they make mistakes or go through difficult times.
