What's happening today?
Following on from our live lesson.
Play the game 'Hit or Miss'
You don't need Numicon as I am aware that you won't have it at home. You can simply create cards with 2, 5 and 3 on and let that help you to decide. If you don't have dice at home write the numbers 1 - 6 on pieces of paper and randomly choose two to create your two digit number.
When completing step 4 of the game: to check your predictions write out your number sequences to prove or disprove your hit or miss.
E.g. I had the number 21 and chose the card 5. I predicted I would miss, lets check.
0 5 10 15 20 21 25 = Miss - I was correct.
E.g. I had the number 24 and the choose the card 3. I predicted I would hit, lets check.
0 3 6 9 12 15 18 19 21 24 = Hit - I was correct.
Today we are going to find out a bit more about life on a small island. We know that Katie Morag lives on the Isle of Struay, a Scottish Island and that this island was based on the real Scottish Island of Coll.
See the map below of where the real Isle of Coll is.
Today you are going to find out about what it is like to live on a remote island and join in with Barnaby Bears adventure. He visits another Scottish island which is part of the Orkney Islands, you can also see these on the map above too. We have already thought of Geography questions that we wanted to ask Katie about living on an island and today you might find out many of the answers! Watch Barnaby's adventure below.
Now that you have taken part in Barnaby's adventure let's also find out about the Isle of Coll. Read the powerpoint below and look though the pictures.
During your reading, make a list of activities on the Isle of Coll that you think people who visit the island would enjoy and places they might stay or visit
E.g.
Arriving on the ferry
Walking on the beach
Playing a game of golf
Staying at the holiday park in a caravan
I have also saved the powerpoint as a PDF in case you can't access it.
Remember to complete today's Theme lesson before you start this English Task.
You did an amazing job yesterday with your sentences using subordinating conjunctions, well done. Today you are going to use all that hard work to advertise all of the interesting activities and places on the Isle of Coll.
Using your list that you made in your Geography task and the photographs below can you think of a way to advertise the island to visitors and tourists. Don't forget you can also use what you saw on Barnaby Bear's adventure too.
I would like you to use the style of sentences you learnt yesterday. As well as other simple sentences or questions.
E.g.
Come to the Isle of Struay because there is lots to see and do!
If you walk on the beach, you might spend some time collecting shells.
Do you like playing golf? If you do, the island has a golf course!
You will have an amazing time when you visit the Isle of Struay.
You can present your work anyway you like. You might like to make a tourist leaflet, an advertising poster or travel guide book. If you make any of these you could design a front cover too!
Below there are some photographs that you might like to print or you can or draw and colour your own. I have also included some leaflet templates if needed.
