Expressive Arts and Design

Summer 2

This half term, our focus is on sculpture.

We already have lots of opportunity to make independent 3D models in our classroom, from clay and playdough to block play to sand sculptures. However, we are going to extend our skills by exploring the work of Michael Bolus and have a go at making paper sculptures in his style and also the work of Barbara Hepworth and carve soap sculptures in her style.

Summer 1

This half term, our focus is on observational drawing.

We love drawing from our imaginations, but in the last couple of weeks we have been developing our looking closely skills to explore the shapes of fruit and vegetables.

Spring 2

This half term, our focus was to explore texture through collage and weaving.

We explored tearing and cutting different materials, such as paper, tissue paper, card and fabric to create pictures. We then added embellishments using paint, colouring pencils, sequins and ribbon, etc. We also had a go at weaving.

Autumn 2

This half term, our focus has been on learning different joining techniques to create models using different recycled materials.

We have also been singing lots of songs ready for our Christmas Play.

Autumn 1

For the rest of the half term, we have been exploring colour and colour mixing with paint. We have also started to explore printing with different objects.

Autumn 1 - Weeks 2 and 3

Over the last two weeks, we have drawn self-portraits using a pencil and paper. We chose whether we wanted to use A3 (big) or A4 (small) paper.

Here is our Portrait Gallery:
