This year we are thinking about the theme of 'Connections', each class is thinking about how we are connected to planet earth through the book 'Here we are' by Oliver Jeffers.
We used this book as a starting point for our theme based on Connections. This picture book is both an overview of Earth and a guide to living well: concepts of kindness, tolerance and environmental responsibility run through out. It has been such a nice way to help the children learn about the importance of different aspects of the environment and how we make an impact. With this as our starting point, each class then took an area to focus on throughout the week. These areas are listed below:
EYFS: Earth and environment
Year 1: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Year 2: Habitats - with a focus on endangered species
Year 3: Climate change - with a focus on the polar ice caps
Year 4: Bees and their importance
Year 5: The Worlds oceans
Year 6: Plastic pollution
