The children worked in their small groups to create a News report, live at the scene. The reporters interviewed a witness who saw the fight between Beowulf and the beast, Grendel.
The children enjoyed decorating and painting the letter of their first initial. They took their inspiration of the patterns and colours from the Anglo Saxon designs that we studied and really enjoyed adding metallic paint as a final touch.
The children really enjoyed researching the different species of dragons from the book, How To Train Your Dragon: The Incomplete Book of Dragons. After studying the many different types of dragons and their characteristics, the children were then given the task of designing their very own species of dragon. They then had the task of creating a non-chronological report about their dragon.
In art lessons we have been learning how to sketch dragon eyes. Concentrating on the scale patterns of the beast's skin and considering colours for the pupil and surrounding area. The children are sketching designs to choose their favourite that they will then later recreate using clay.
The Children and staff had a wonderful time becoming Vikings for the day! We experienced what life was like as a Viking. Starting the day by travelling on a longboat to England, then settling in a wooden hut that was unoccupied and learning how to make our own pots to eat and drink out of. We also learnt how to make sheep's wool into yarn so that we could make our own clothes. The Vikings enjoyed looking smart and often wore brooches that they had made from silver or bronze. We had a go at creating our own brooches using copper.
