English

Today your task is to create a  picture glossary using some of the words from our island theme this half term.

Remember some of the features we looked at today in our live lesson as these will need to be included in your glossary.

Your picture glossary will need:

to be in alphabetical order

to include a picture of each word

to give a definition for each word (remember a definition explains what the word means)

Today there are two different lengths of glossary that you can make depending on how many words you would like to work with. There is also a frame for you to use if you would like to.

Maths

Today we are going to be investigating making different 2D shapes with a set number of sides.

You will need today some straight line resources and you will need 18 of them. They all also need to be the same length.

Some resources you might have around your house:

18 straws (or 9 cut in half)

18 lollipop sticks

18 cocktail sticks

18 cotton buds

18 pieces of wool or string cut to the same length

18 strips of paper cut to the same length.

If you can't find anything that you think you can use. You can draw your shapes, but you can only use 18 lines!

Here is our investigation start today:

If you made some octagons how many did you make? Did you have any sticks left over?

Investigate:

  • The number of squares you can make
  • The number of triangles you can make
  • The number of pentagons you can make

Think how you could record your findings today:

  • you could draw your answers after you have made them
  • you could create a table showing how many shapes you can make and if there are any left over sticks
  • you could photograph the shapes you make

Could you use all your sticks to make a large rectangle?  What would this look like?

How many different ways can you make just one rectangle?

Can I make a circle or a semi circle as part of this investigation? Why/Why not?

Theme P.S.H.E

Today you are going to be thinking about feelings. You will hear about a girl called Jem who is feeling a bit lonely and needs your help.  You might have felt like Jem before because I have too and I think everybody has felt like her at some point. Luckily, I know that you will have some good advice today to help her and hopefully if you ever feel like Jem, you will remember your good advice from today!

Follow the link below to watch the online lesson to find out more about Jem and to meet Bobby who will help you today.

You will be writing a letter to Jem to help her so listen carefully.
