Quidditch, anyone?

On Monday 13th June, Year 6 received their prize for coming first in the 'Bound to Beijing' competition - they spent the afternoon learning to play Quidditch! They began the afternoon by separating into their houses - Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and, of course, Gryffindor! They then warmed up, learning to pass the different balls and practice shooting through the hooped goals, before taking part in at inter-house tournament! Though there were unfortunately no flying broomsticks, a 'magical' time was had by all!

Printing

In art, we're looking at printing. We learnt four different techniques - mono printing, relief printing, stamping and collagraph printing. We looked at the effects we could achieve with each technique using both ink and paint in preparation for using printing to recreate Monet's Houses of Parliament and another original image of a London landmark, which we'll be completing later in the term.

Monet's 'Houses of Parliament' series

To kick start our Yes, Minister topic, the children looked at Monet and his paintings of the Houses of Parliament. All of the paintings are of the same view but in different weather and light conditions. We learnt about the Impressionist style and the technique that Monet used when painting - 'tache.'

We then used our learning to paint our own views of the Houses of Parliament in the Impressionist style.
