SPARKLY START
We had a visit from a Stone Age man called Ug. He came through the Year 3 history portal and was behaving very strangely. He had a spear and was trying to make fire in the classroom using sticks! He was also rubbing stones together and trying to shape them. We then raised questions about life in the Stone Age.
SPANISH
We have started Spanish in Year 3, but why learn Spanish? We heard some really good reasons why it is a great language to learn and also learnt some great facts about Spain.
A TIME LINE OF HISTORY
We went into the playground to discover where we fit into history and how long the Stone Age actually was. The roll of toilet paper was history and the last 5,000 years was the very last piece of toilet paper. The rest of the time was the Stone Age! Everything we had learnt about history in school so far was on that last piece of toilet paper!
FOREST SCHOOL - HUNTER GATHERERS
In Forest School, we pretended to be hunter gatherers and looked for the food that could be gathered. Some of it was real and other bits were examples on pieces of paper of what Stone Age people would have eaten. Some of us pretended to hunt some of the animals that would have been around at the time.
MATHS - ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION
We have been building up to our column addition and subtraction calculations using our Base 10 equipment and Hundred, Tens and Ones grids to help us work out the answers when we have needed to exchange.
THE FOSSILISATION PROCESS
In Science we have been exploring how fossils are made and have sped up the process by millions of years, using bread and sweets to help us talk through and explain what happens.
REMEMBRANCE
As part of Remembrance, we have been investigating the local history of Tanworth and exploring two of the men from Tanworth who gave their lives during WW1. We went to find the names of those who gave their lives on the War Memorial and then to find the 'White House' where Captain Edmund W Beech lived. We then researched about the lives of the men and plotted ke events in their lives on maps.
INVESTIGATING FORCES
As part of our new topic in Science, we have been exploring forces. We have been measuring force in Newtons and investigating how different surfaces create different amounts of friction.
