Homework is set every Friday. Check back each week to find out your task for the week.

There will always be a Times Table Rock Stars task every week.

Learning by Questions Homework

Some weeks, the children will have some homework set on Learning by Questions (LBQ). To access it, please use this code: 9qqbcnbg. You can log in directly via the LBQ website here: Learning by Questions.

Each child also has a small label with a QR code and all of their sign-in details stuck inside the front cover of their reading record to make logging in easier.

Thank you for your support!

This term's spelling patterns that we are focussing on are:

The class are also struggling to apply the correct spelling rules when adding suffixes. A suffix is a letter or group of letters added to the end of a word to change its meaning.

Since Year 1, the children have learned how to add the suffixes -ing, -ed, -er, and -est. There are several different rules to remember, depending on how the root word ends — for example, if it has a short vowel sound or ends in a certain letter.

Please follow the link below to learn more about adding suffixes and their spelling rules!

Maths: This week we have looked at multiplying and dividing by 10. The class have grasped this really well. (But a word of caution, please don't tell them to just add a 0 or take the 0 away on the end of the number. They will really struggle when they come to work with decimals if they rely on this method). Please can you work alongside the video linked below:

English: We have revisited our understanding of coordinating conjunctions this week. These are words that join two main clauses together.

Please log into LBQ and complete the coordinating conjunctions session.

TTRS: Complete the Garage session on TTRS

Maths: This week we have had a real focus on multiplication and division. Please work alongside the video to consolidate the 2, 4 and 8 timestables. Remember if you don't know your 4 timestable you can just double your 2's! And if you don't know your 8's you can just double your 4's!

English: Write a setting description based on a snowy winter scene. Use the snowy images and vocabulary sheets that have been shared to help generate ideas and exciting words for your writing. These resources are there to support imagination and help children choose language carefully.

A key focus for this piece of writing is using expanded noun phrases. This means the children will be adding extra detail to their nouns by including adjectives and descriptive phrases to help the reader picture the setting clearly. For example, instead of writing “the tree”, children might write “the tall, bare tree with icy branches.”

Encourage your child to:

  • describe what they can see, hear and feel

  • choose interesting adjectives

  • build clear and detailed expanded noun phrases

The aim is for children to show what they know and apply the skills we have been practising in class in an enjoyable and creative way.

I have written a model of the type of writing below:

White fields stretch out all around you. From the top of the hill, you can see for miles. The cold air tickles your throat
and makes your fingers feel numb. Your breath puffs into the air like little clouds each time you breathe out. Everything is quiet.

You can hear the soft creak of ice and, far away, the call of a snowy owl. Snow fell heavily during the night. Now a thick, fluffy blanket covers the land. A frozen river twists through the fields, shining and sparkling in the pale light. In the distance, one tall tree stands alone. Its bare branches stretch up towards heavy grey clouds.

Light snow begins to fall again, floating gently to the ground. The cold wind whistles over the hedges, hiding their sharp thorns under smooth snow. Nearby, small paw prints cross the field. They lead to the river and back again, with circles and trails crisscrossing the snow. It looks as if a small animal has been running about.

Soon, the sun begins to set behind the hills. The sky turns soft pink before fading to grey. Darkness slowly spreads across the land, bringing a deep chill with it. Out here in the countryside, everything feels still and quiet. You are alone, surrounded by snow and silence.

Please could the children keep practising their lines and the songs for the upcoming Carol concert and Christmas Service!

28.11.25

Christmas is fast approaching and today I have sent the children's lines for the Christmas service home. The class do not need to learn these by heart but read them clearly and loudly. Please could they be kept in their bags in the coming weeks as we will be practising in any spare moment we get!

The songs are also on the class page and it would be helpful for them to practice these also.

Of course, TTRS and reading is still expected to be done.

English: Choose a character from a book you’re reading (or from class text - The Bear and the piano, The Stolen Spear or even our class reader Podkin One Ear!).
Write 4–5 sentences as if you are that character describing part of their day.

A good diary entry includes:

  • Start with Dear Diary,

  • Use first person (I, my, we)

  • Include one feeling and one detail about what happened

  • End with your name or Goodnight, Diary.

Maths: Complete at least 9 of the column subtractions in the attached document below.

TTRS: Log into TTRS and complete 5 minutes.

14.11.25

English: Create a spelling poster using the link above to show how to add the suffixes -ed, -ing, -er and -est, including the spelling rules for each.

TTRS: Log into TTRS and complete a Garage session.

Maths: Complete the column additions. Then sort the calculations into three groups:
• additions with no exchange
• additions with 1 exchange
• additions with 2 exchanges.

  • 41 + 28

  • 76 + 68

  • 48 + 36

  • 34 + 25

  • 89 + 57

  • 58 + 47

  • 246 + 378

  • 432 + 167

  • 307 + 586

  • 523 + 189

  • 694 + 728

English Homework – Making Sentences More Interesting!

This week, we’ve been learning how to use adverbials to add more detail to our sentences.
Adverbials tell us when, where, or how something happens.

Here are three plain sentences from The Bear and the Piano:

1️⃣ The bear touched the piano.
2️⃣ The piano made a sound.
3️⃣ The bear practised.

Can you make each one more interesting by adding an adverbial?

Now try it!

Add one or more adverbials to each sentence.
You can put your adverbial at the start, middle, or end.

Example:
➡️ The bear touched the piano.
After a while, the bear touched the piano carefully.

Now try your own!

🌟 Challenge!

Write one extra sentence of your own about The Bear and the Piano using two adverbials.

Example: Every morning, the bear practised carefully in the forest.

Encourage your child to say each sentence aloud before writing — it helps them hear what sounds best!

Maths: Watch the video and work alongside it:

https://vimeo.com/463954202

TTRS: Log in and complete 10 minutes of the Garage session.

17.10.25

Grammar:

Choose a short comic strip or picture (from a book, magazine, or one you draw yourself!) with at least two characters talking.

  1. Look at what the characters might be saying.

  2. Write 3–5 sentences underneath your picture, using inverted commas to show what each character says.

    • Remember to start a new line each time someone new speaks!

  3. Add a reporting clause (e.g. said, shouted, whispered) and a little action if you can.

Example:

“Watch out for the banana peel!” shouted Max.
“Oh no!” cried Ella, slipping on the floor.

Challenge: Use different verbs instead of “said” — can you think of 3 new ones?

Use this video to support you:

Maths: Practice your column addition on the sheet attached. You can watch the video linked if you feel you need support.
