Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

I am Mr Fidler, the Year 3 teacher. I hope that you'll find this page informative and useful in keeping up to date with the class.

Summer Term 1 Newsletter and Home Learning

Thank you to the children and parents for supporting our Egypt Day yesterday. The children were all fabulous! Here are just a small selection of the pictures we took on the day to give you a flavour of what they got up to!

Parent Workshop and Concert - Many thanks to all the parents and family members who shared in Year 3's event on Thursday 22nd March. We had a great time sharing some learning about Shackleton, building our sugarcube igloos and performing our ukeleles for you.

Can you work out if the character is Starjik or Ivan from our kennings?

Book Club News

We held Book Club this lunchtime (16th Feb) and enjoyed discussing the books and of course the drinks and biscuits. The children loved both books that had been selected and rated them as follows:

Kensuke's Kingdom = 9.5/10

Pirate School - Just a Bit of Wind = 9.7/10

Keep an eye out for next half term's books!

We had great fun at the start of our new topic 'Intrepid Explorers' following the treasure hunt/ orienteering clues to obtain the instruction, which was 'NOW GET A TENT'. Once the children had constructed them, they discussed what they already knew about explorers and what they wanted to find out!

Coventry Transport Museum Trip - We had a great day seeing the fastest cars in the world, experiencing Thrust SSC in the simulator, learning about Victorian Cycles and exploring how transport has changed over time. Here are a few of our pictures from the day!

BOOK CLUB NEWS
We held a great Book Club today in Year 3, discussing 'Diary of a Killer Cat' by Anne Fines and 'Sheep Pig' by Dick King-Smith. Over 90% of the children chose to spend some of their lunchtime sharing views and favourite parts from the books, as well as coming up with the all important scores for their reviews. 'Killer Cat' scored 9/10 by Year 3, while 'Sheep Pig' was our favourite with a whopping 10/10 score!

Many of the children have expressed a wish to read more Dick King-Smith books. More information about him and the catalogue of 100 books he has written can be found at www.dickkingsmith.com

RE DAY - Let there be light! As part of our RE Day looking at the festivals of Diwali and Hanukkah, we made dreidels and played a Jewish game which is played to celebrate their Festival of Lights.

As the book I'd chosen for Book Club this term has already been covered, we will now look at Sheep Pig by Dick King-Smith in our Book Club. If you have started Diary of a Killer Cat, don't worry as we will look at that too!

To launch our new topic 'A Journey Through Time' looking at the development of transport, we watched some videos of 'Bloodhound' the car which is currently being tested and prepared to break the landspeed record and hoping to reach an amazing 1000mph!

Stonehenge at sunset and In the moonlight - Year 3 Artwork

What a find! One of our Year 3 children has brought in some arrowheads from the Neolithic period (about 5000BC) which were found by a family friend in the Sahara Desert. Thank you for sharing these with us!
