Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

I am Mr Fidler, the Year 3 teacher. I hope that you'll find this page informative and useful in keeping up to date with the class.

Roman Banquet - We made Roman bread rolls and honey cake and combined them with olives and grapes for our banquet. They were delicious!

Art Day- Study of Paul Klee - We learnt about the artist and explored some of his paintings before creating our own, inspired by his style.

Computing - During the autumn term the children in Year 3 were using ‘formulas’ within spreadsheets to perform calculations.

Science - We have started our new unit on 'Forces and Magnets', testing out the friction of different surfaces, exploring magnetic poles and making our own compass to check the one drawn on the playground!

Anti-Bullying Week - As part of Anti-Bullying Week, we looked at the effect bullying has on people and their mental health. We treated two apples differently and then cut them open to see the damage that had been done to the inside that we couldn't see.

Times Tables Practice - I've attached below a document with links to several free times table activities which children can practise at home. By the end of Year 3, children should know all their times tables for 2,5,10,3,4 and 8. This should be for fast recall and include knowing the associated divisions too.

Our Trip to Alcester Roman Museum - A selection of photographs from our fun and informative day.

A poem to introduce our topic

The Romans in Britain, by Judith Nicholls and read by Richard Brown. Thanks to the author for her permission to use her work.

Why learn Spanish?

We have started our Spanish lessons!

Homework

Your child should have brought home their spelling, grammar and maths homework on Friday night. Each book will have a page marked that they need to complete and it also has the due date. Please do not complete any further pages as these will be set in subsequent weeks. If you wish to complete more work, please login to MyMaths where an optional task has also been set or spend some time practising times tables using some of the links in the document below.

Many thanks,

Mr Fidler
