Summer 1

This half term is all about Science Experiments! We have already planted our sunflower seeds from our last topic when we were looking at the plant lifecycle but now they are starting to grow! We looked at this alongside reading 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. The children have rewritten this story and I must say we have some aspiring authors in this class! We will also be looking at colours whilst looking at the Poem 'What is Pink?' by Christina Rossetti and lots of other fantastic science experiments.

Our butterflies were ready to be released today! We have been watching them grow from tiny caterpillars to big caterpillars and then turn into a chrysalis. They all finally came out as beautiful butterflies and so we released them by the flowers on the field.

The colour science experiment went very well. We placed Skittles around the edge of plate with some water in and watched the colours merge.

Spring 2

This half term our focus is 'New Beginnings'. We have looked at many things such as the frog lifecycle, the caterpillar life cycle and how a flower grows.

We went to the butterfly farm! The children were very excited to get up close to butterflies and learn even more amazing facts about these beautiful insects. Thank you to the parent helpers who came along!

Butterflies have symmetrical wings so Reception class have been learning about symmetrical patterns in Mathematics.

Becketts Farm kindly run a competition for Reception Class for Mother's Day. The children painted beautiful paintings of their Mother's and the pictures are displayed at Becketts Farm and judged by the staff there. Their decision must have been very tough but these children came 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Well done! Everyone is a winner in our eyes so the rest of the class were given a bunch of daffodils and a cupcake to take home for their mothers. Thank you Becketts Farm!

Capacity was very fun for Reception when we got the scales out. "Miss Smith this is the heavier one!" How do you know? "Because it's lower down."

This half term we will be focusing on 'Our World'.

A very exciting guest has arrived in Reception class! Space Bear has travelled all the way from Mars to learn about the planet Earth and Reception class has kindly offered to teach him.

First of all we told Space Bear what we already knew.

We did a 'Brain Storm' to put all of our ideas together.

Our next mission is to find out more about our world so that we can teach Space Bear some more!
