RSE CONSULTATION

Relationships (RSE) Policy Consultation

We are pleased to share that consultation on our school’s Relationships (RSE) Policy is now open.

The policy is available to download below and can also be viewed here on our website under Key Information, Curriculum and PSHE. We encourage all parents and carers to read the document and share any feedback.

At Tanworth-in-Arden C of E Primary School, our approach to Relationships Education is rooted in our Christian vision of enabling every child to flourish and experience “life in all its fullness”. It is important that our policy reflects both statutory guidance and the values of our school community.

Consultation closes at 12.00pm on Monday 22nd June.

All feedback will be carefully considered by school leaders and governors before the policy is finalised and ratified. A summary of responses and any resulting changes will be shared with parents.

Feedback can be submitted via: https://forms.gle/HDCLp84uiV3EwUw67 or email to Tanworthschool@welearn365.com

Thank you for your support and partnership.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Relationships Education (RSE)?

Relationships Education is part of our wider PSHE curriculum, which supports children’s personal development, wellbeing and understanding of relationships. It focuses on helping children build positive, respectful relationships and maintain their wellbeing.

Is RSE compulsory in primary school?

Yes. Relationships Education and Health Education are statutory for all primary-aged pupils and must be taught in all schools.

What does the policy cover?

The policy outlines our whole-school approach to PSHE, including what is taught, how it is delivered and how we meet statutory requirements. It also explains how we support pupils’ safety, wellbeing and development.

What will my child learn?

Children learn about important themes such as:

Families and caring relationships

Friendship and respect

Keeping safe (including online safety)

Mental and physical health

Understanding growing and changing bodies

All content is taught in an age-appropriate and progressive way.

Will children learn about sex education?

Sex education is not compulsory in primary schools. At Tanworth-in-Arden, it is taught in Years 5 and 6 in an age-appropriate way, focusing on factual information about human reproduction.

Can I withdraw my child from lessons?

There is no right to withdraw from Relationships or Health Education.

Parents can request withdrawal from some elements of sex education taught as part of PSHE.

We encourage any parent considering this to speak with the Headteacher so we can discuss the curriculum and support your decision.

How is the curriculum taught?

We use the Jigsaw PSHE programme, which provides a carefully sequenced, age-appropriate curriculum. Lessons include discussion, reflection and opportunities to develop communication and emotional skills.

How does the school ensure teaching is appropriate?

Content is adapted by teachers to meet the needs, maturity and experiences of pupils. We also consider pupil voice, local context and feedback from families to ensure learning is relevant and sensitive.

How can I view teaching materials?

Parents are welcome to request access to lesson materials or further information about the curriculum. We want families to feel informed and confident about what children are learning.

How can I share my views on the policy?

You can submit feedback via email to tanworthschool@welearn365.com or google forms uhttps://forms.gle/HDCLp84uiV3EwUw67 until 12.00pm on Monday 22nd June.

What happens after the consultation?

All feedback will be reviewed by school leaders and governors. The policy will then be finalised and a summary of responses, along with any changes, will be shared with parents.
